My sisters and brothers in Christ:

At our services tomorrow at 8 and 10 a.m., we’ll remember the baptism of our LORD and reflect on how the bonds of baptism defy all time and space. Our Saturday afternoon service resumes next Saturday, Jan. 17.

During the 9 a.m. Christian formation hour this Sunday, Jan. 11, led by our own Pam Kelley, we’ll continue our conversation about prayer in civic and other public settings and offer a prayer-writing workshop. If you attend, you’ll be all set for the next time someone decides, because you’re a churchgoer, that you’re the perfect candidate to invoke the divine and bring everyone together in unity and love. Please join us!

On behalf of DJ Gomer, we invite the women of the church, especially those who’ve never tried this ministry before, to Women’s Movie & Dinner Night this Wednesday, Jan. 14. You’ll see a 4:40 p.m. showing of “Wild” starring Reese Witherspoon at the Regal Foothill Towne Center Theater and then gather for dinner at 6:45 p.m. at the nearby Thai Garden. For more information, or to let us know you’re attending, please call DJ at 949-351-1399.

Meanwhile, the men of the church are invited to hear a presentation on faith and vocation by our own Daniele Struppa, chancellor and president-designate of Chapman University, at their fellowship breakfast on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 a.m. in the multipurpose room. Please sign up this Sunday in the narthex.

And don’t forget Mother Martha’s ordination next Saturday, Jan. 17 at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Cathedral (514 W. Adams Blvd., Los Angeles 90007; please try to be in the pew by 9:30) and our St. John Chrysostom patronal celebration, annual meeting, Ministry Fair, and chili lunch on Sunday, Jan. 25. Please sign up for a potluck item this weekend or next in the narthex.

Yours in Christ’s love,

Fr. John
