An acolyte is a minister at the altar of God. Acolytes carry the cross, torches, banner, and book of Gospel readings at all primary worship services. They also assist in serving Holy Eucharist at the Great Vigil of Easter. Youth from fifth grade through college can become an acolyte. Acolytes are scheduled to serve once a month and have quarterly training sessions. Acolytes are overseen by experienced adults: Patti Peebles, our youth minister and the St. John's School chaplain, and Monte Nelson, who supervises their training.
