My sisters and brothers in Christ:
Your copy of the summer 2016 issue of the St. John’s newsletter, the Vaya Con Dios, is elsewhere on this website. We’ll have hard copies available in church this weekend. When you see our gracious editor, Linda Allport, around campus, please be sure to thank her for all the creativity, love, and sheer effort she pours into each issue.
And Linda writes as follows:
Every Vaya issue is not just the work of one editor but the product of many hands from a large, talented community. In this issue, we hear from gifted writers such as our youth correspondents CJ Lazatin and Jared Schafer and contributing adults Dot Leach, Deb Griffith, Mo. Martha, and Fr. John. Every issue features the brilliant photos of Chuck Ver Burg and Fr. John. And the church staff — Cindy, Sandy, Patti, and Sheryll — help with names I can’t spell right, facts about the church and our events, and the all-important copyediting (with a big assist for this issue from DJ Gomer). Every issue showcases the diverse talents and viewpoints of our big family at St. John’s. I am grateful for their help in creating the Vaya! Linda.
And now, news flashes . . .
♦ St. John’s worships as usual this weekend: Our convenient community Holy Eucharist service on Saturday (July 30) and on the 11th Sunday after Pentecost at 8 and 10 a.m. Please note that the Saturday evening and Wednesday noon services will be on hiatus during August.
♦ Be sure to sign up this weekend for “Let’s Taco ‘Bout It,” our family-friendly, no-alcohol fellowship dinner on Saturday, Aug. 6 at 6 p.m., featuring a demonstration of Godly Play, our new Christian education program for young children, which launches on Sept. 11. Be sure to invite your family, friends, and neighbors. You can read all about it in the Vaya!
♦ I’ll be on vacation beginning this Friday through Aug. 19. If you have a pastoral need, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Mo. Martha and Cindy and Sandy in the church office.
♦ We’ll say a fond au revoir – “We’ll meet again!” – to Mo. Martha onSunday, Aug. 21 as she prepares to take up her vocation as Associate for Community Life at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Phoenix.
Yours in Christ’s love,
