February 11, 2017

My sisters and brothers in Christ:

A brief reminder that we’ll offer just one service tomorrow (Feb. 12), at 10 a.m., in commemoration of our patron saint John Chrysostom, fifth century archbishop and reformer. In a reading St. John loved from Matthew’s gospel, we’ll hear our LORD warn the faithful to reconcile with one another before making their offering at the altar of God. This teaching is why we almost always say the general confession and pass the peace before Holy Eucharist, so we’ll come to the altar for communion as pure as humanly possible!

After the service, we’ll have our annual Thanksgivings for Ministry and parish meeting (including elections and a budget briefing), followed by our ministry fair and potluck lunch in the Cardinal Gym. Come ready for fellowship and to learn about and perhaps sign up for a new ministry to which our God in Christ is inviting you in our busy, Spirit-filled church.

A reminder that our Wednesday noon and Saturday afternoon services are on hiatus in February.

Please also mark your calendars for “STEAM Into The Future,” our annual St. John’s School Cardinella fundraiser, on Saturday, March 4 at AV Irvine, an evening of dinner, dancing, silent and live auctions, the ever-popular Wine Wall, and a luxury “Hotel Del Coronado” opportunity drawing. All proceeds will benefit the high-tech and other programmatic enhancements that have made our largest ministry the most innovative independent school in the region. You can read more (and watch a video in which our students give the craziest answers to the question “What Is Cardinella?”) at this link:

 Yours in Christ’s love,

 Fr. John

P.S.: In spite of the rain this morning, thanks to the leadership of our own Emily Salvanera, St. John’s Church and School had a great turnout for our monthly offering of food and fellowship at Isaiah House in Santa Ana. This photo shows only about the half of our team! If you want to learn more, mark your calendar for our next Isaiah House visit on Saturday, March 11 at 9:30 a.m., and drop a line to Emily at er.salvanera@gmail.com.
