Here’s something we’re betting you’ve never done: attend a St. John’s Youth Group meeting on Zoom!

How to describe it? It’s like being an astronaut communicating across space with Houston command center — lots of chatter, lost signals, cross-talk, lots of excitement, and maybe, unlike Houston, hilarity!

About 15 YG members click in to Zoom Wednesday nights, joining Mrs. Patti and the other adult leaders, Joe Miramontes, Mr. and Mrs. Nichols, Bree Lintz, and Mike Olivor.

How does a virtual YG work? Mrs. Patti leads it, asking the YG questions like:
   • what’s your favorite restaurant
   • what chore would you give up doing?
   • you’re all at home; what do you miss most?
   • what one food would you eat every single day forever?

Online scavenger hunts are a thing, too, and the kids raced all over their homes looking for coffee mugs, blankets, phone chargers, plants, Bibles, hand sanitizer, and toilet paper.

Mrs. Patti led a short devotion. Wednesday night’s message was “Your schedule doesn’t define you,” and she explained that although we may all be busy figuring out our new normal, it’s good and okay to roll with this thing we’re ALL experiencing for the first time, to give ourselves time to figure out our new lives.

Then kids picked items from their rooms and all the other kids found and showed the same item. The point? Mrs. Patti:  “Even though we’re not all together, physically, we’re still all connected. We’re as close as a text, phone call, or in this Zoom chat. We’re more similar than we are different. Don’t forget that. Thank you all for coming, and let’s pray together. The Lord be with you . . . “ Then all shared the Lord’s Prayer and ended with Amen!
