Mrs. Patti and the church’s adult leaders bring their A game to Wednesday night Youth Group meetings!

Middle School and High School Youth Groups each have a Zoom meeting on Wednesday nights for 45 minutes.

Middle schoolers at tonight’s April 29 meeting each shared a favorite quote and talked about why it inspired them. Adults shared their favorites, too. After a couple of games of Disney trivia and matching movie quotes with movie titles, the group closed in prayer with a focus on people impacted worldwide by the Coronavirus, finding a virus vaccine, for teachers and families who are spending so much time online, for students who are struggling during this time away from school, and for the new grand nephew born last week to Mr. Nichols’s niece. Mrs. Patti wrapped up the meeting: “We thank you for this time together and for technology, even though we’re tired of looking at screens. We lift up all the mentioned prayer needs; look into our hearts for all things spoken and unspoken we lift them up to you, and we look forward to coming back together again.”

During the High School Youth Group meeting kids shared their favorite quotes, including:

Liz: God took that person out of your life because He heard conversations you didn’t.

Alexis: This is not a command but a promise. We don’t need to worry because God loves his people and will take care of them

Sydney: You are loved forever

Bre: God didn’t bring you this far to leave you

Spencer: Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever ― Mahatma Gandhi

David: Things won’t go perfect. It’s all about how you adapt and learn things from your mistakes – Michael Phelps

Jake: Most people don’t reach their dream, not because of failure.
Most people don’t live their dream because they GIVE UP. You see it’s not the failure that stops us — but that MOST stop at their first failure.

Those who succeed don’t stop at one failure!
They don’t stop at ten failures!
They don’t stop at one hundred, a thousand or a million!

Riley: Focus on what makes you happy, what makes your soul feel at peace. Life becomes so much more fulfilling when you are just simply yourself. The world keeps spinning whether people understand you or not, so why not just be yourself?

Mrs. Patti wrapped the sharing time by saying, “We’re so focused on what people don’t like about us, or don’t approve, or are critical of, but you know what? We’re doing well! We are good people making good decisions, good choices, we’re stretching with technology.

“It’s easy to hear the negative, but when we hear only that, we have given permission to others to be negative, and to take on, to own, their negativity. We need NOT to own their negativity, because we’re working hard to do well, and to be part of our community, doing good things for others.”

Mrs. Patti also shared from an article called “Twenty-Six Things Teens Need to Know”. Here’s what she focused on:

• Be willing to forgive yourself and others.
Anyone think forgiveness is easy? I think it’s hard. But when you do forgive, it’s such a relief, it’s such a weight off. If we don’t forgive, it’s not healthy. Be willing to forgive yourself and others.

• Concentrate on your character.
Develop your character! Do you have a temper, do you judge others, gossip, have low self confidence, addictions? Are there things in your life that could be considered rubbish and keep you from knowing God? You can work on your character, you can learn things from bad choices you may have made. You can become a person people look up to — not as a godlike hero, but as someone who makes good choices.

• Develop a servants’ heart.
Before Covid-19 we had just started to get out in the community and serve. Be the face of God to others. We’re so busy looking for the light of Christ in others, we forget that we can be — and need to be — the light of Christ that others look to. Let’s be out in the world learning to be that person in whom others see Christ.”

As always, the meeting ended in prayer, led by Mrs. Patti:
“Let us pray. We lift up all the prayer requests spoken and unspoken and on our hearts. We lift up everyone impacted by Covid, especially the front line workers, for those who have it, are going to get it, and are recovering. We pray for our youth, that the quotes they shared tonight will inspire all of us to live better lives, that we may share ourselves and Christ with those we meet. Keep us safe and bring us together again next week. Amen.”
