You may not know this but the St. John’s Youth Group, and its leaders, are EXTREMELY adaptable.
In January — before the Coronavirus disruption — the YG launched a new approach to ministry. Did you read about it in the newsletter? We’re loading the article below. In essence, the new approach offered multiple opportunities to meet up with adult leaders and help people in need, rather than meeting just once a week in the evening and on Sundays for church as the YG did previously.
But then — COVID-19 — and that changed the everyone’s lives. But, our Youth Group adapted and now everyone is proficient at ZOOM meetings, and a new rhythm has been found.
At last night’s YG meetings — middle school and high school groups meet separately, but share the same theme — the message was heeding God’s call.
Mrs. Patti told each group: “We need to heed God’s call, even if it means we have to face hardship, or have to say and do hard things. We each need to participate in communities of faith and be symbols of light into the world. We need to have times of rest so we can find a place where God speaks to us.
“We can be overwhelmed by online living. We have to sit back and find that quiet time and space where God can speak to us. Don’t just look for the light of Christ in the grownups about you. Make sure people see Christ’s light in you by the words you say and by your actions.
“Here are the questions I want you to think about: What gives you joy? What needs of the world affect me? How can I act upon those needs of the world? *Listen* for what God is telling you to do. The world is different now, so how will be different as a group and as individuals?
“Let’s not lose what we started doing in January of going out and being in service to others. Whether it was ParkTerrace or the Food Pantry, we were being Christ’s light in the world and being the face of God to everyone. Can you collect food for the Pantry? Can you send a note of encouragement to Park Terrace residents? Even though the world is shut down, there is still a way to minister.
“I can’t wait ’til the time when we can all start to come back into the world.”
