The St. John’s Youth Group leaders are ON IT.
Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Nichols, Mr. Miramontes, Mike Olivor, and Mrs. Patti delivered more than 30 “Lent in a Bag” gifts to every Youth Group member. Included in the bags: pancake mix, Lenten Micro Practices pamphlet (more on this next week), a tiny amount of ashes, bookmark, a random acts of kindness calendar, thank you cards to mail, a giving jar, a Mandala coloring page, and more.
Why? These items provide the YG members stepping stones through Lent, the 40-day season of preparation for the resurrection of Jesus. We mark this time as different through our actions. The ashes on our foreheads remind us of the uncertainty of human life. The micro practices offer new practices to guide members each day of Lent. Some practices can be done then and there, some during the day, and others will take a bit more time and preparation.
Traditionally, Lent has three pillars: praying, fasting, and alms giving. The pamphlet rotates through these themes. Members can engage with the practices however possible as there’s no right or wrong way to accomplish them.
The Middle School and High School & Beyond groups will ZOOM together next Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 p.m. to partake of Shrove Tuesday pancakes, and apply ashes on Wednesday.
This week’s devotional for both groups was:
“God, when I am weary and worn out, I turn to you. Catch me in your arms. Let me come to rest in you. Renew my strength so I can keep walking in your way of justice, truth, and love. Amen.”
If you’re in middle or high school and want to join the Youth Group Zoom meetings for middle school or high school, shoot Mrs. Patti an email. Here’s the schedule: Middle School — grades six through eight — meets Tuesdays from 7 – 7:45 p.m.; High School meets Wednesdays from 7 – 7:45 p.m. The YG’s adult leaders are Mrs. Patti, Mr. and Mrs. Nichols, Mike Olivor, and Joe Miramontes.
See you online!
