Laughter, stories, food shares, and prayer filled St. John’s Shrove Tuesday ZOOM service. It was a great lead-in to Ash Wednesday and the Lenten season which begins February 17.

Ash Wednesday ZOOM services are at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Service links are in Rev. Christopher’s Monday e-blast. Bring your ‘Ashes to Go’ to the ZOOM service of your choice and our clergy will walk participants through the application of ashes. Why ashes? The ashes symbolize repentance and death for the believer, how Christ died for us. They’re meant to show that a person belongs to Christ. When the priest applies ashes, these words are spoken: “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

An added feature to our season of Lent is a magnificent meditation garden in the sanctuary created by Kathe Hayden. You can stop by Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and you’re almost guaranteed, Rev. Christopher says, to find someone in the office who can open the church for you. Be sure to wear a mask and socially distance.

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
