Youth Group is mixing it up a bit this semester; rather than have one meeting with all groups, now it’s:

  • High School and College meeting on Tuesdays via ZOOM at 7:30 p.m. College members are graduates of St. John’s Youth Group who continue to enjoy the fellowship. Awesome!
  • Junior high — grades six through eight — meeting on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. for 45 minutes via ZOOM. But next week, September 22, at 6 p.m., the JHYG meets at the Lake RSM Starbucks for two loops of the lake and a time to meet in person and fellowship with adult leaders.

To join either group, or ask questions, get hold of Mrs. Patti.

This post focuses on last night’s Junior High meeting which drew eight new JHYG members — one eighth grader and the rest six graders, along with four adult leaders, Mrs. Patti, Mr. and Mrs. Nichols, and Mr. Miramontes.

Mrs. Patti introduced the Presiding Bishop’s “The Way of Love” and its seven spiritual practices, but focused on just the first practice: TURN.

Mrs. Patti explained that turn means to, “Turn your heart and your attention — your focus, your behavior — away from bad, negative, or wrong things, and turn your heart, mind, eyes — everything — to God. It’s as simple as making a better choice. Sometimes it means we have to do hard things. Maybe it’s a decision not to follow our friends who are doing some sketchy behavior. It’s not always easy.”

For example, Mrs. Patti, rather than listening to the news or a humorous podcast on the way to St. John’s, listens to Atlanta, GA Bishop Rob Wright’s podcast to help prepare for her ministry as school chaplain and church youth group leader. She added, “This week think about how you can make a better choice. Next week we can share any experiences we’ve had with turn.”

  • On Sunday, September 26 we’re planning a beach day for the Junior and Senior High YGs — details on location and time to come.

Youth Group members are reminded that adult leaders are just a text away if members need to talk.
