The Creeds (Part 1)

Reading the Apostle’s, Nicene, and Chalcedon creeds - in that order - in our Book of Common Prayer, observe the significant growth in explanations of the nature of Christ.   We’ll explore beliefs in the early church that created the tension between so-called heresy and orthodoxy and how credal statements became a cornerstone of Christian doctrine - especially the Trinity.  We’ll review why Church Fathers over several centuries argued, fought, and excommunicated each other over words that may mean very little to modern people.  We’ll consider if the words do indeed matter now and how they may inconspicuously influence our viewpoints.  Find out if you lean a little toward the heretical or the orthodox.  Jeff Allport will lead us in this session.
